RESONATING SPACES
Architecture is commonly judged visually, yet it is experienced through all senses. The acoustic signature of a building dictates the emotional response of its occupants. In a pavilion stripped of soft furnishings, where concrete and glass dominate, managing sound reverberation becomes an engineering imperative.
The Danger of the Echo
Expansive double-height voids and hard, planar surfaces reflect sound waves, creating chaotic acoustic environments. The modern minimalist aesthetic often falls victim to a cacophony of overlapping echoes, making spaces uninhabitable for daily living.
Integrated Acoustic Baffling
Instead of applying aftermarket acoustic panels, we integrate sound absorption into the structural DNA. Perforated timber ceilings backed with sound-dampening insulation act as massive acoustic traps. We utilize micro-slatted wall cladding that visually reads as a continuous architectural texture while breaking down high-frequency sound waves.
Acoustic Principles Matrix
- Diffusion: Strategic placement of irregular geometry to scatter standing waves.
- Absorption: Implementing porous raw materials in upper elevations to catch ambient noise.
- Isolation: Structurally decoupling mechanical utility zones from quiet living voids.
